Thought for the day

Postby yat_chum » Sun Jan 01, 2006 5:16 am

Plan for the difficult while it is easy;
Act on what is large while it’s minute.
The most difficult things in the world begin as things that are easy;
The largest things in the world arise from the minute.
Therefore the Sage, to the end does not strive to do the great,
And as a result, he is able to accomplish the great;
Those who too lightly agree will necessarily be trusted by few;
And those who regard many things as easy will necessarily end up with many difficulties.
Therefore the Sage regards things as difficult,
And as a result, in the end he has no difficulty.
Tao Te Ching

haha, sorry jo, couldn't resist!! but here is some of my refridgerator wisdom:

"ancora imparo" which the source i got it from translated as "i am still learning", and my rusty latin makes "unprepared anchor". same difference i guess..

"People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self- centered;
Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;
Be kind anyway.
If you are successful you will win some false friends and true enemies; Succeed anyway.
If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you;
Be honest and frank anyway.
What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight;
Build anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous;
Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;
Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough;
Give the world the best you've got anyway
You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God;
It was never between you and them anyway." Mother Teresa

“There is something to be learned from a rainstorm. When meeting with a sudden shower you try not to get wet and hurry down the street. But doing such things as passing under the eaves of houses you cannot help but get wet. When you are resolved from the beginning that you will get wet you will not be perplexed even though you still get a soaking. This understanding extends to everything.” Hagakure

The fox and the cat were standing on a hill, talking about how many ways they know of escaping from a pack of dogs. The cat feeling rather inadequate, said “I only know one way. I run up the nearest tree.” The fox gave the cat a sardonic smile and said “Well, actually, I know fifty different ways of escaping a pack of dogs” Just then a pack of dogs appeared on the horizon and ran in the direction of the fox and the cat. The cat, utilising his only escape technique, found sanctuary up a nearby tree. Whilst the fox was busy deciding which of the fifty escape techniques he should employ, he got ate by the pack of dogs.

When a fight comes, always endeavour to chase the enemy around to your left side. Chase him toward awkward places and try to keep him with his back to awkward places. When an enemy gets into an inconvenient position, do not let him look around but conscientiously chase him around and pin him down. In houses, chase the enemy into the thresholds, lintels, doors, verandas, pillars and so on, again not letting him see his situation.
Always chase the enemy into bad footholds, obstacles at the side and so on, using the virtues of the place to establish predominant positions from which to fight. You must research and train diligently in this. The Book of Five Rings
