ha! so nice to see this on ways of thinking because it is one of my favorite sayings, it reminds me of a Hausa proverb I often heard in Niger:

"sana hanya, yahi sabko"

which can translated as "knowing the way is more than leaving early" or "knowing the way/road is better (bigger/more important) than leaving early"
