Tai Chi Chuan Its Effects and Practical Applications

Postby Sanfung » Tue Sep 25, 2012 2:19 pm

Whenever I look through old martial arts magazines, I see advertisements for a book entitled Tai Chi Chuan Its Effects and Practical Applications by Yearning K. Chen. Some reviews decades ago criticized the text for giving what some individuals felt was impractical advice, such as striking an attacker in the same direction as the one that they were moving in. I've even heard some interesting stories about the text, including one that claimed the text was stolen from a book that Chen had begged from his own master and then preceded to copy in the night.

Has anyone read this old book? I was wondering if it was still in print, though it doesn't seem like the YMAA catalog stocks it. If anyone has, is it worth getting my hands on a copy of it, or should I consign myself to the fact that there are many superior texts available on the topic today?
