This is ALWAYS the most popular topic. Its about the tenth time its been discussed in this forum. There are some other great threads on it in here...

I guess its something everyone deals with, and there are always lots of questions.

Dr. Yang defines Jing as the hormones, neurotransmitters, genetic material, and other chemistry in the body. You inherit pre-birth essence from your parents, and it is said that you cannot change it on a deep level. on the other hand, it is likely that if you are extremely healthy mentally and physically, and have a dedicated meditation/qigong practice, that you CAN improve your chemistry and your genes so that they are improved - closer to optimum health - and then the Jing you pass on is "improved" over that of your parents.

In discussion w Dr Yang about this he suspects also that this is true.

Any genetic scientists in here? Let's get some experts into the discussion!

Otherwise, wouldn't humans continually degrade until we are incredibly unhealthy and weak?

Case in point: Lance Armstrong's parents are not superhumanly physically fit. But lance has trained his entire life and has become a superhuman badass. I predict his children will inherit his improved genes/etc/Jing and will be 'pre-disposed' to being unusually healthy.

I'll report back in 15 years when his son (or daughter?) wins the Tour de France.

Quite.

No, I meant generation-after-generation.

I know also that ceratin hereditary factors skip a generation.

We MUST be able to improve our jing or else humans would devolve each time we reproduce. So, I beg to differ with the ancient statement that you can exhaust your jing, and it cannot be replenished.

That doesn't mean you shouldn't...um...refrain from overuse of the aforementioned apparatus.

So, it can be replensished BUT we shouldnt use it?

What I think about your other statment is that it might be an imbuilt feature of the sperm 'n' egg to grow jing as well as the person.
If we could catorgize what jing is by western standards, then maybe their
would be another way to replace it..... I have a sneaky suspiciopn that testosterone replacement thearapy would be part of that replacement
as it claims to solve many problems that lack of jing is supposed to cause.
This little snippit is taken from a testosterone replacment therapy faq.

"What results can I expect with HGH and/or testosterone?

Everyone is different but many patients report the following (results may vary from person to person):

1st Month: Increase in mental sharpness, enthusiasm for life and an elimination of a mild to moderate depression. More energy, better results from exercise and weight control efforts. Better sleep.

2nd Month: Improved muscle tone, enhanced sexual function, improvement in nail growth, improvement in skin tone, better digestion, increased strength & weight loss. Improved hair growth-thickening of hair with a shiny & healthy appearance.

3rd Month: Mental processes improve, including desire to do & complete projects, increased muscle size, especially if the individual works out, hair growth, reduction in post menstrual symptoms in women, increased sexual desire, greater body flexibility.

4th Month: Same as 3rd Month: Generally most improvements are heightened and more consistent.

5th Month: Impressive weight loss, reduction of inches, since fat is reduced & muscle tissue is increased, toned improvement to skin texture, reduced appearance of wrinkles, Vast improvements of hair growth.

6th Month: This is a rather significant stage since cellulite greatly diminishes, body is more contoured, eyesight is greatly improved, stronger resistance to colds, flu, and other illnesses, some pain & soreness will disappear, old wounds have healed or are healing, excellent exercise tolerance, grayed hair begins to return to natural color, medical test show a reduction in cholesterol (LDL) & triglycerides, blood pressure normalizes, heart rate improves, some conditions due to disease vanish or are diminished & immune system improves"
so, maybe in conjunction with growth hormone etc, we might be able to replace da jing?

yours hopfully
Pat.

one issue with that stuff is it hasnt been around long enough for people to find out in what way it has messed them up or ruined their life in some crazy manner :P another issue is that your body is going to start seeing that stuff and the parts that do secrete that stuff wont because they wont have to and they will atrophy. and with the vast majority of those parts, once they're gone they're gone. with some things it could be as simple as a receptor being damaged or switched off - often a receptor in one area triggers secretion elsewhere.

I agree that jing can be replenished, also that it is to be used sparingly, if at all. what is not used is great energy that your body can use for other things. as far as what it has already produced, it has put great effort to build it so the chia practice transforms it into energy your body can use in another way. that book explains how to do it, but to really be able to do it most likely requires a decent level of achievement. havent finished the book yet ;) your body will naturally recycle semen; those practices will make the process more efficient, and from what I understand so far, you use small circulation in the practice to circulate the energy generated. I think that might also be in the secret of youth book in some fashion.

dvivid, interesting point. and we thought the religious freaks were nuts when we were kids when they said porn was the bane of society! lol :D
