Qigong for Goju Ryu Karate

Postby BernardLim » Sat May 07, 2011 6:12 am

Hello people,
I was reading Dr. Yang's the essence of Shaolin White Crane, i realised that the white crane's hard-soft style qi gong is very applicable to Goju Ryu, though some said sanchin and tensho would be sufficient for Goju's QiGong training, but i would love to explore it's root which is white crane,

I was wondering if anyone know where can i learn crane qi gong in Melbourne Australia? i know there is always an option learning from DVDs but i would love to if possible learn from a qigong master from people like Dr.Yang.

and people what do you think? should i start my study of qigong from books and DVD first until i meet someone like Dr.Yang?

would be safe to train qigong alone? if consider sanchin and tensho are type of qigong then i only trained and experience sanchin and tensho only..

thank you for your patience

I practised the White Crane hard Qigong from the DVD for some time and it really improved my skill. I also practised the White Crane sanchin using its principles. I improved a lot and I got a lot stronger. You can learn from the DVD but you have to stick with it as it takes a lot of time and effort to get it right.

The roots of Goju-Ryu is hard/soft and alwats has been.
Sanchin has elements of a foundation routine that was popular in Okinawa as an intermediate training method through which other systems are enhanced through its conditioning!

I was a bad student of Goju Ryu and never really understood it until I left Okinawa. I did alot of the body conditioning exercises but found it 'difficulot" so I quit after a few months.

Hi Bernard, it might be worth your while contacting Russ Smith he is a Goju Ryu player who also has some White Crane experience. I know that he uses White Crane Qigong in his training. You might be able to get hold of him on his youtube channel. http://www.youtube.com/user/gojumaster
Here is a clip of him teaching some White Crane Qigong techniques

You might also check out Kris Wilder's Sanchin DVD. HE focuses on the principles that apply to all versions of Sanchin:

That is the traditional "qigong" for Goju Ryu.

Very much related to soft and hard whiite crane qigong:
