Basic Wai Dan Qi Gong and Sex

Postby Sorcerer » Mon Jul 18, 2011 2:09 pm

I know this topic keeps coming up, but I wanted to ask people what the "qi physiology" of sex is... Why does certain Qi Gong require abstinence?

I also have another question: Im practicing Dr Yangs "Da Mo Qi Gong" The first form of his successful older book Qi Gong for Health and Martial Arts. Da Mo Qi Gong is a basic form of standing Wai Dan Qi Gong. In it Dr Yang simply states that one should not do the form on the same day and the day after one has sex. Does this include only partnered sex? I dont understand why this is the case. Also, If someone has sex wtwice a week (which I think is normal) that person will only be able to do Qi Gong for 2 days of the week! At the same time, Dr Yang says that abstaining from Sex can harm QI flow. Im not sure I follow all of this.

gates (apertures) are to be guarded; sex opens this particular aperture. the sex organ is tied energetically at a very root level - its why if you had a good knowledgeable coach in high school they'd tell you not to have sex before or on game day, either! once the aperture is opened it takes a certain amount of time for it be properly closed, and if you are doing certain meditations that especially require this fuel then all of your efforts are in vain.

wai dan qigong? no biggie. be natural. observe the general rules but dont go crazy over them. of course you wont benefit as much if you are having sex too often, but if you are living naturally and harmoniously then you wont be harming yourself.

Another way to look at it: you lose a lot of hormones when you ejaculate.

Hormones are a catalyst in the body that metabolize food/fat into energy, or Qi. From a qigong perspective, you lose not only these regenerative fluids, but their associated energy.

If you are striving toward enlightenment, don't ejaculate. Ever. Read about Tantrayama Yoga, and you can still have sex.

If you are using qigong for general health, don't worry about it at all. Twice or thrice a week is fine, if you are healthy. When you're over 40, you might also take ginseng regularly, which stimulates testosterone production, and helps you replace what you lost more quickly.
