"internal" hard qigong ?

Postby sun the best » Sun Sep 25, 2011 5:25 am

Hello,

I bought the book Bruce Kumar Frantzis wrote. And he says that in bagua there is a hard qigong set which does not involve hitting the body with objects, and that is why Wang Shu Jin was unbeatable. So why bother hitting your hand on bricks or other stuff if you can do it with pure qigong ?

Well as I understand it, it is more straightforward to use external methods with the internal. It is a very complex posses. I spent a good amount of time looking into it and have been shown some internal methods. Using bone breathing is a good start. I also tend to like dynamic tension as well. Then you get into packing Qi and you work out you just dont have the time. In short external methods give quicker results and are simpler to work out.

but external methods will damage your body. Once i saw someone who did train his right hand only for 2-3 years, his right hand was much larger than his left, not very pretty

It would depend how far you took it and how good your method was. A lot of systems use specialist dit dar jow and massage along with hitting.

Hong Gar has a very good method in its Iron Wire set, both internal and external. Hitting yourself can be done without damage over time and with good methods. Its as much about learning to resist blows with your energy as thickening your body.

different training methods will manifest different results 8) of course there is overlap, but understand the fundamentals beneath and you will be able to tell what the difference is!

There are many hard qigong styles and techniques that don't involve hitting the body. ANY qigong that utilizes muscular tension is hard qigong.

In ancient times, hitting the body and smashing the hands was necessary in order to condition the bodily tissues for mortal combat. That should not be the case any longer, so the practices should not be used, because they have harmful side effects, like nervous system damage.

I recommend Shaolin White Crane Hard and Soft Qigong:

I had bad health when I started doing the DVD and after 6 months I was much more robust. Its a good DVD but it really pays to have the book as well.

Hello John the Monkey mind,

Would you mind giving a little more detailed account of how 'bad' your health was before the training and how 'robust' it became after?

Thanks!

I had post viral exhaustion after getting run down and having two doses of flue in a row. I also have problems with digestion so it was a cumulative effect.

Every time I tried to get fit I would burn out and get a heavy cold or infection and have to take time of work. I switched to a very healthy diet but still it did not solve my problem. Even Wing Chung training exhausted me sufficiently to get sick.

I was doing some soft Qi Gong but again although I felt better I could not take part in hard exercise without getting sick.
I short I was unable to exercise properly and although soft methods and health living had improved my situation and I could go to work and train to a bit I was very yin. There was a wall I could not move through capping my potential.

It was a like having exposed rocks under water. When the water level drops they would break through the surface. I felt I had an underlying and continual sickness I had felt for around a year and my energy like the water would hide the rocks of my sickness. Diet and Qi Gong maintained the energy but when I used a lot of energy but when I used a lot of energy at one time the rocks would be exposed and I would be sick the next day without fail.

After about three months of the white crane hard Qi Gong I was sufficiently strong to train properly and to do hard physical work. I had to slowly build up how much I did at once but was in the end doing all the Hard Qi Gong on the DVD. Sadly due to time constants and the weather I had to stop (I needed to take a shower after practice as I would get very sweaty and it was -30 outside so I had to wait for my hair to dry and me to warm up naturally before leaving the house).

I now almost never get sufficiently sick to miss work and I can do hard training. YMAA summer camps being my favourite with the 6 hours + a day of practice :D
Sorry if this was a bit rambling but it was hard to define what was wrong with me.

The longer the better! :D

Thanks a lot, I think the YMAA forum needs more testimonials of this kind.

I don't know if it is a good idea but a testimonial sub-section forum could be nice.

Best of qi

I am ignorant of the term "internal" hard qigong and the designation but all methods have a neigong / yangshenggong / jibengong component that is part of their learning methodology.
Even Okinawan karate has this! It is a training regimen that is usually complementary to the main system.
