Ultimately, you must forget about technique. The further you progress, the fewer teachings there are. The Great Path is really NO PATH.

The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. When in a state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin. When all is orderly, he does not forget that disorder may come. Thus his person is not endangered, and his States and all their clans are preserved.

Don't be discouraged by a failure. It can be a positive experience. Failure is, in a sense, the highway to success, inasmuch as every discovery of what is false leads us to seek earnestly after what is true, and every fresh experience points out some form of error which we shall afterwards carefully avoid.

A man who loves music can make great progress in karate; a man who does not love music will never perform karate correctly. Mas Oyama

Hi Inga, "Spirit first, technique second" was by Master Gichin Funakoshi, from The Karate-Do Kyohan. In finding this out I also found some other good stuff that I might use at a later date. Thankyou. I thought that I would post one of my favourite Karate quotes. I know that I have used this elsewhere in the forum but what the hey. Cheers Jo A.K.A. Yat chum (speck of dust)

What is success?

To laugh often and much;

To win the respect of intelligent people
and the affection of children;

To earn the appreciation of honest critics
and endure the betrayal of false friends;

To appreciate beauty;
To find the best in others;

To leave the world a bit better, whether by
a healthy child, a garden patch
or a redeemed social condition;

To know even one life has breathed
easier because you have lived;

This is to have succeeded.
