too much? sex and qigong, what may go wrong?

Postby oldbeermaker » Mon Jan 03, 2011 6:43 pm

Hi, I have checked all posts and have to ask for advice. I have a sex twice a day since I rememer (20 years or more) I am almost 40 now. my body loves it and got used to it. If I dont have sex I feel extremely energized and I just need relief the pressure. I have been exercising all my life also I have manual work and I am never tired. recently I started Qigong training on my own (based on great master's books) and after few sessions I have discovered extremely fast building energy in anus area that It started to be painfull at the tail bone area and I stopped practice immediately. my question is : what may happen if I keep having sex so often and keep practising? Thank you for help. Artur

Hello and welcome,

What for of qigong are you doing? is it a simple form like the 8 sections?

A basic principle of qigong is to regulate your sexual activity. Sex uses your yuan jing (original jing), which is a big part of qigong. If you are a male you lose qi (through sperm) during sex and if you are a female you gain qi. Either way, your body needs a while to rebalanced itself.
The purpose of many qigong practices is to build up and conserve yuan jing in your body . Dr. Yang advises not practicing qigong 24 hours before or after having sex. If you are doing something like the 8 sections this isn't a big deal, but if your doing something more complicated than it can be an issue. My suggestion is that you cut down on your sexual activity.

Hope this helps,
Michael

qigong/sex

Postby runestone0 » Tue Jan 04, 2011 7:38 pm

One interesting phenomenon I've found through long-term standing post practice: marathon sexual staying power. To be honest, I have a very bad back due to cancer damage--and sometimes I have just wished it would end. So--let Lilith climb atop Adam. The other thing? A couple of my partners have reported quick and easy orgasms: one said "Normally I have to picture something to bring me to it--but with you it just comes."

I'd like to take credit as a macho guy but since I have Irish blood it's not a question of "big guns." Gotta be the qigong.

Oh, yeah--it helped me beat terminal cancer. That's good, too.

I feel only benefits. what do you say, what would say Dr Yang? I need a proffesional answer not like before. Thank you.

Nothing wrong with the act of sex per se but there is a problem when the energy you gather from qigong to "maximize" the energetic phase will only decrese the effects of qigong (yangshengong practices) over time.
Like making tea, allow the tea to sink inot the water instaead of forcing it to do its job. There is a phase of periodization (duration and level of intensity of yangsheng practice) that allows one to reach a point of balance. Age and level of activity will determine how you experience some measurable benefit.

Mantak Chia says use your orgasm for your healing/strenghtening your body, means no ejaculation. Dr Yang says no sex 24 before and after qigong. my question is: WHY? HOW DOES IT WORK? WHY DIFFERENCES? WHY BENEFITS? ANY LONG TERM SIDE EFFECTS?WHAT IF I HAVE SEX EVERY DAY AND DO NOT EJACULATE and keep practising qigong? only full and highly proffesional advice please with as clear explanations as possible from somebody who knows it deeply. thank you

When Master Yang says no sex, he means no ejaculation.
He doesn't delve as deeply as Mantak Chia on this subject and doesn't pronouce his opinion either :-/

What we need here is the experience of someone who's used Chia's methods or similar ones for a long time and who is now 70ish.
Then can we learn something.

Cause you need a good qigong practice and level in order to balance the yang qi you develop during sex with no ejaculation.
"Turn your butt!"
Master Yang.

Its *so* hard to describe energy depletion straight from the core. All of these "other" depletions are more superficial, eating too much, drinking too much, they effect you at a more superficial level than sexual depletion.

like DF said, there's not really a ton of long term data to go by on this, so looking for "only full and highly professional advice" on the subject if you stick strictly to that criteria you are likely to find no advice whatsoever.

If you really want to understand these things you need to put in a lot of time practicing and getting to know your body and mind and how they interact with one another. Nobody is going to be able to describe to you adequately.

I'd hesitate to say that with no ejaculations one may simply have as much sex as they want with no limitations - of course it doesnt drain you nearly as much and you do get some reciprocal energy from your partner, but even if you are both well cultivated and the process is streamlined and efficient as possible, at some point you absolutely will still reach a point of diminishing returns. Jing isnt compared to money in the bank or your retirement fund for no reason - you still have to spend some to make some in the whole jing qi shen paradigm - that is why at some periods of particularly strict and intense neigung any sexual thoughts are off limits because when you investigate the process far back enough you find that it originates in mind and it is the mind itself that initiates the origination and movement of the generative forces to begin with.

You already know a decent measure of what works for you. Find balance within that, and pay attention to your inner scenery so that you may keep an investigative eye on these things. Try some periods of time with less sex and see if you feel the difference in your practices. If you are not empirical then you will miss this crucial data and understanding!

In chinese medicine they say that the amount of times a man may safely ejaculate depends a lot upon his age, and health. Basically the younger you are the more often you can safely ejaculate, and the older you get the less. At 40 chinese medicine would definately say that twice a day is too much lol.

With practicing retention one must be very carefull, as it can get tricky. True you do not loose semen, and thus the jing that is required to regenerate semen, BUT if you are not prepared and do things right, retention alone with out proper sublimation can possibly cause more problems than it solves.

'BUT if you are not prepared and do things right, retention alone with out proper sublimation can possibly cause more problems than it solves.'
thank you for the post, could you please make proper sublimation more clear?how, why, etc. at the moment I have sex and orgasms every day but let myself ejaculate once a week, just in case, but I feel it like a waste, it takes two days to recover, but I feel flying and happy (but this is caused by meditation too, it is pleasantly addictive). I feel like body is shouting for proper qi circulation and it is regulating itself, like hot head shower and then dry face massage to remove Qi from the head, like swimming with breath holding and energizing the skin, like driving sitting straight/relaxed and feeling qi flows, like never stops thinking/brain storming, looking for, trying.. why is it so much/normal? I feel that there is a purpose that I dont know/realise yet. well, something is seriously saving my arse, I should be certainly dead 12 times by now, ok this goes too far :-)

another subject I would like to ask for advice @the root of chinese qi gong@ page 169, 'there are some qi gong techniques whereby the man retains his qi and makes his body's qi level lower than the woman's. in this case, the man is the one who benefits. there are a number of books available on daoist sexual practices which can be consulted for further information' i am extremely hungry for information. can you feed my hunger please?
:D , great thanks for all adices

There are actually many ways to sublimate semen to jing to chi. An important pre-requisite to retention and sublimation is having an open MCO due to the fact that once you retain, and once you sublimate, you need to run this energy in your MCO so that it does not stagnate.
There are several methods of sublimation, including the MCO itself, but all of them require an open MCO. Some of the methods are testicle breathing/ cool draw as taught by Mantak Chia. Lower dan tien breathing and running the MCO is also a sublimation technique. I've been told, though do not have personal experience in this, that sitting in full lotus can also sublimate.

3. dr Yand said in one of his book 'too much training (meditation) can make your body too yang. how do I know when this is happening?

4. I am a roofer. my lower spinal cord is not in the best condition. western medicine is hopeless. I have found that walking straight improoved my spine a lot. but if I direct Qi to the injury point I can heal myself quicker and better. how can I direct Qi to the point?(Qi flows by that area during small circulation but I need to understand it and do it safely)it is about holding the breath,

The answer to questions 1 and 4 is the same. The MCO is the microcosmic orbit, or the small circulation. You will know if your too yang if your very aggressive. As to question number 2. I'll have to re-read that, as I don't remember that part.

Postby oldbeermaker » Thu Jan 19, 2012 10:00 am

First, thanks for all the answers. Please, make a reference to every point, and make your answer as long/professional as possible.
1. My target is enlightenment, but first wider the channels to achieve grand circulation asap
HOW long should last a single meditation session and what it should include as a minimum/standard. (which paths/how long/why/why not/embryonic brathing?/fusion of five elements?/etc. What is your exercise habit?
2. My habit at the moment: a bit of tai chi/embrace the tree/sitting small circulation and embryonic breathing/a bit of girdle breathing/marrow breathing/turtle breathing, bai hui-hui yin /gently packing to the kidneys and self healing my damaged spine (concentration of Qi/packing to the sacrum and lower spine),bone breathing, bone packing, some five gates breathing and rooting (in progress), reading (a lot). Very often my nose in the third eye point is ticking continuously, also I have found my centre/pearl in lower dan tien and sometimes in the head, in progress
Recently I started 5 gates breathing on the go, anywhere I am. Nice one but difficult
3. How can I measure my qi capacity? How can I check it? I feel mco on the tonque constant and strong. Sometimes I am woken up by flow and dan tien radiating.
4. Turtle breathing, bai hui/hui yin, it is very easy, especially when driving a car. What does it do with the body?. I can feel clearly energy moving at wish/thought to the points but not the way the Qi is moving, only destinations. Mostly using Buddhist breathing, feels more natural
5. When I want to meet/mix fire Qi and water Qi at Huang ting, how does it feel ? How can I pull/push it together?
6. What is the quickest method/other excercises to open/wider channels to the hands?
What I know is tai chi and embrace the tree but progress in that matter is very slow
7. Marihuana. because of relaxation coming from it I opened my mco and seriously achieved a lot, progress after weed is unbelievable. The question: is it good to use it from time to time to achieve more sensibility and understanding/feeling of Qi? What exactly does it do to the Qi and kidneys?I feel them cold all the time but colder when under influence of drug. It is built/released? very fast and in huge amounts. Dan tien is warming itself and Qi/blood circulation/pressure speeds after marihuana use, flow is starting freely
Also I am saying that it opens the body for energy of heaven and earth. Body sucks it automatically and extremely strongly. How can I improve it? Pack it, etc..
Also i am saying that it is banned because it opens body for energy and therefore for enlightenment, right?
8. There are side effects of weed. The right bladder channel is affected. There is a ‘fungus’/nail problem on BI-67, and broken skin under the toe BI-66, also the BI-35 is itching. Any idea why the right one only, and precisely how does it work?
9. Balancing yin and yang, methods please as many as you know please, I feel very often that I am still too yang, ringing in the ears almost on daily basis, when starting using Buddhist breathing ringing is stopping
You gave me a palm breathing, thank you for that but they are not quite open yet, working on it
Have to say that grounding/exchanging qi when feet breathing is working well. Any other ideas?
10. Roughly how many people in the world is enlightened? Three thousands? What would happen if everybody would be enlightened?  a paradise?
11. My favourite method of breathing. I fill the lower abdomen to the max, like balloon on the edge of breaking, holding the breathing canal opened, and holding the breath for a while as long as comfortable/pleasurable (half a minute). This is like pushing the belly to explode with inner pressure. This way I stretch my spine out to the edge, but it is extremely relaxing. This way I feel packing/pulsating and clicking my spine with huge relief. . So what am I really doing? (my body loves it, and need it), after that I start proper breathing or circulation. It is like warming up before session. Should I avoid that internal pressure or is it good and I should continue?
12. Why should I avoid a huge wave of Qi after (long) holding a breath? I can control it by slow exhale and mind directing to the target, but why should I avoid a wave?
13. Sexual energy coming from orgasm, how long does it stay in the body, how efficient it is? I feel direct packing/pulsating to dan tien at the moment of reversing the sperm/orgasm and then nothing. It is very powerful but seems to disappear (easier to achieve without a woman to be truthful).
14. Quote from one blog ‘After SHO, when one "pull" the neigong line of attribute, one can usually see bright light or see things that happen inside and outside the body.
What is neigong line of attribute? How can I locate it/feel it, deal with it
15. What kind of packing is the safest and most efficient. I am packing qi to the bones, beginning stage. After that I can not sleep even the whole night. Very powerful. How can I keep it in the body?
16. What about stretching the spine? I do it like mad, then I can feel a very strong flow and pleasurable relax. When the vertebrae cliks, it automatically release the flow. The key point is sacrum and first lumbar from it/wej lu gate. What are the possible damages if I do it too strongly?
17. Lotus position. I cant do it but I slowly working on it. What is the benefit of lotus? How do you suck yin qi when sitting this way? By ming men?hair? sacrum? How? Legs are blocked
18. What is a connection between ming men and sucking qi directly to the kidneys? How useful is it? I sucked the moon directly to the kidneys and felt immediately blue color. How does it work? Now today I know, that the moon is artificial. How does it work then? If any doubts please check www.davidicke.com, look for moon
19. Paranormal activity as a ‘side effect’ of circulation. What about this? See www.thewayofblindman.com so you can understand what I mean. Please explain

. Am I progressing too fast?
Can I have private email to joeblast please? Email me please to oldbeermaker@yahoo.co.uk
There is lot more I need to ask but not on the forum. Thank you

Postby joeblast » Thu Jan 19, 2012 12:56 pm

I dont think they'd provide my email address  But I will email you :)

1. My target is enlightenment, but first wider the channels to achieve grand circulation asap
HOW long should last a single meditation session and what it should include as a minimum/standard. (which paths/how long/why/why not/embryonic brathing?/fusion of five elements?/etc. What is your exercise habit?

Wider channels...you can almost liken it to "upgrading bandwith" as if you upgraded from a garden hose to a fire hose - this happens naturally as you progress. Dont try to do anything ASAP, in my opinion. Just do it now, because far as anyone can tell time is really just a construct; when you establish a good 'path of least resistance' via the practices you will naturally have more energy flow into core processes, enhancing the jing qi shen paradigm. How much time...well, if we had as much time as the ancients... The mix is rather personal. I think a half hour, hour in the evening is good, but as you progress and develop the energy centers (think path of least resistance) time gets somewhat blurred - when I was in good practice doing longevity breathing sometimes I couldnt really tell the difference between 20 minutes and two hours - you are doing awareness training, so...time really is rather relative.
As far as working out, I recommend sweating somewhat decently every day.

With regard to 'packing' also think "flux density" - you may be "cramming more qi" into a particular area but do not forget that you are enhancing flow - you do not want to enhance stagnation ;) Do you do these practices on any sort of schedule, or when they feel proper, or...? Just curious. Remember whenever you do "active" exercises, always let what you have done settle in stillness afterwards, it will integrate the pattern more effectively (an interesting aside, a respected person noted that "qi" is "pattern" in its very nature, albeit an energetic one...) I have a bad back also and rely on stretching, tai chi, bagua, xingyi type spontaneous qigong movement and heaps of proper posture, but I've never really "concentrated qi there." I'd also advise, if you're doing something that should be treated seriously, give it your full attention.

3. How can I measure my qi capacity? How can I check it? I feel mco on the tonque constant and strong. Sometimes I am woken up by flow and dan tien radiating.
Certain masters could probably analyze such a thing and tell you, but honestly I dont believe that knowing your dantien was X% full would really help you significantly. Most likely your ego wants to be sure you're making progress, some might say
4. Turtle breathing, bai hui/hui yin, it is very easy, especially when driving a car. What does it do with the body?. I can feel clearly energy moving at wish/thought to the points but not the way the Qi is moving, only destinations. Mostly using Buddhist breathing, feels more natural
While its good to be able to do relaxed breathing and such while driving, its generally discouraged to have to divide your time if one is to seriously immerse into the practice. Yi leads qi, so destinations are more apropos. Buddhist breathing can get you very far, I have found that it sorta 'rolls over' into reverse breathing at some deep levels of motion, e.g. very well integrated psoas motion in breath. Dont force it though, and dont grasp on to notions of progress, really it will serve to limit your overall progress. Let go of that notion and just really learn to enjoy what you are doing when you are practicing :)
5. When I want to meet/mix fire Qi and water Qi at Huang ting, how does it feel ? How can I pull/push it together?Wait for later ;)
6. What is the quickest method/other excercises to open/wider channels to the hands?
What I know is tai chi and embrace the tree but progress in that matter is very slow
Laogong breathing - best to tackle that before moving on to 4 or 5 gates breathing.
7. Marihuana. because of relaxation coming from it I opened my mco and seriously achieved a lot, progress after weed is unbelievable.
Please excuse plainspeak, I dont want to diminish whatever experiences you have had, but it is exceedingly unlikely that you "opened your MCO" with it. It is sorta like peeking through the keyhole to your parents bedroom when you are small and getting a peek watching them have sex 8) The veritable dopamine boost you get from it is in a way "flaring the mingmen fire" so...the progress, while real in a sense, is somewhat less than genuine. Your results seem to back that up to some extent. I'd imagine if you were a hardcore stoner and used it with meditation every day it would eventually harm the kidney yang. Since the kidneys pretty much do not have the potential to be in a true excess, most afflictions of the system are of a deficient nature. Again since the practices center on awareness, it is imperative to have the awareness unaffected by external factors. Historically its spiritual usage has been of ceremonial frequency, so keep that in mind along with the 'moderation' guideline!
8. There are side effects of weed. The right bladder channel is affected. There is a ‘fungus’/nail problem on BI-67, and broken skin under the toe BI-66, also the BI-35 is itching. Any idea why the right one only, and precisely how does it work? How do you know that is a side effect of weed? There would need to be a more thorough diagnosis to determine that.
Any other ideas?
skipping, time ;) There's a great many balancing methods - what needs balance???
10. Roughly how many people in the world is enlightened? Three thousands? What would happen if everybody would be enlightened?  a paradise?I think 3,000 would be an extremely generous number. 300 would probably be high, even, but what do I know of such things
It doesnt sound like you're doing that every breath or even many breaths - sounds like a pretty nice stretch!
12. Why should I avoid a huge wave of Qi after (long) holding a breath? I can control it by slow exhale and mind directing to the target, but why should I avoid a wave? Were you told to avoid it? In a sense it is sorta "playing with one's energy," so if you're going to manifest something...manifest for a purpose, is what makes sense to me.
Not quite sure how to answer that as phrased. The chain of events manifests and utilizes resources...
14. Quote from one blog ‘After SHO, when one "pull" the neigong line of attribute, one can usually see bright light or see things that happen inside and outside the body.
What is neigong line of attribute? How can I locate it/feel it, deal with it
Sounds like opening of things...as one becomes more open to energy...how to get there, must first find utter complete stillness before any true neigong training can be done. That is the only time everything is quiet enough for the subtle to really...'have the background become the foreground.'
15. What kind of packing is the safest and most efficient. I am packing qi to the bones, beginning stage. After that I can not sleep even the whole night. Very powerful. How can I keep it in the body?Think if it like charging a battery - are you really going to charge it more than its capacity? Now, as gains in practice are made, the capacity does become enhanced, but really there is only so much water a sponge will soak up at a given time. Stillness stillness stillness, that is how the energy is more efficiently integrated.
16. What about stretching the spine? I do it like mad, then I can feel a very strong flow and pleasurable relax. When the vertebrae cliks, it automatically release the flow. The key point is sacrum and first lumbar from it/wej lu gate. What are the possible damages if I do it too strongly?I stretch my back constantly also. Possible damages I think are sorta individual, whether one will tweak L5 or L4, who knows? It depends on how it happens.
17. Lotus position. I cant do it but I slowly working on it. What is the benefit of lotus? How do you suck yin qi when sitting this way? By ming men?hair? sacrum? How? Legs are blocked
Grasping is what the greedy traveler does with a chest of gold coins he's found...as he sinks in quicksand  It would be advisable to let go of the concept of amassing and hanging on to every bit you can. It will limit your practice in some fashion. Lotus is good but dont rush it. It isnt 100% necessary, just another tool in the box - but we all know how much more quickly a job gets done with exactly the right tool - of course we need to determine what the job is in order to say what the best tool is! Lotus is amenable to reverse breathing because of how it stretches the psoas and sorta 'forces' the lumbar spine upright. Bones have piezoelectric properties, so the bit of sustained pressure on them makes use of the piezo effect. It does block off the primaries a bit, so thus develops the luo a little more. I've heard a certain person or two say that lotus is the best way to sublimate sexual energy. I do lotus but normally dont do long sitting sessions...it really depends how flexible I am that day, or if one has a lot of energy it is easier to do because when the channels are...I am hesitant to say full, but energized...then they simply stretch easier. Just remember do no harm, if you try to make progress too quickly then you will harm yourself. The better you know yourself, the more in tune with your limits you will be.
18. What is a connection between ming men and sucking qi directly to the kidneys? How useful is it? I sucked the moon directly to the kidneys and felt immediately blue color. How does it work? Now today I know, that the moon is artificial. How does it work then? If any doubts please check http://www.davidicke.com, look for moon
Do you have any other kidney issues? Just curious, you have mentioned them a few times. One may utilize qi in this fashion for many things, with many structures. Hold your palms up to the fire, what happens? ;)
19. Paranormal activity as a ‘side effect’ of circulation. What about this? See http://www.thewayofblindman.com so you can understand what I mean. Please explain
As bandwith is increased, one's antenna picks up more frequencies 8)
. Am I progressing too fast?I dont think any of us here would really be able to say with certainty. You seem to be making good progress - just dont get greedy trying to keep the second derivative of your progress always positive - it is plenty enough to keep the first derivative positive ;)

just wanted to explain this mco open after weed.
it was a year ago. after a joint I caught myself waving with hips in front of the mirror asking whay the h am I doing. I found an answer that I was relaxing/stretching/pulling up the spine on the lower back. so I pulled my hands up and started pull up a vertebrae one after another until I reached the bottom/wej lu tight gate. then suddenly a lightning came through on my back! a really strong hit of the power. I was in shock. I was energized like never before for the next two hours. my eyes was glowing, I was excited like never before in my life, full body pulsating, flow as a storm.that was a year ago and since that time there is no blockage, no problems, just steady progress. so I am saying that weed definitely! made/helped me do it, but..
my problems with right kidney is strictly related to weed. too many years of smoking (14). you are right, defficiency of yang, and only right kidney affected. now I stopped completely and I am enjoynig even faster progress, but I miss it sometimes as I have to say that it opens my mind to other frequencies, widers the view, progress is much faster, discovery on daily basis is a standard, and I am going to say that it is very helpful to reach enlightement and I am not wrong, but the price is too high/kidneys are in serious pain after long period of smoking, and now the plan is to take it only once a moth.
as you said, moderation is a key. tank you again for precious advices. artur/oldbeermaker
