Embryonic Breathing and High Eye pressure!

Postby Shinobibeatz1234 » Tue Jun 26, 2012 9:07 pm

I was wondering if its dangerous to practice Embryonic breathing when you have high eye pressure? My doctor told me that my pressure high during my eye exam the other day and he said it might be because glaucoma runs in my family. I have the embryonic breathing book and i have not train in it because i am reading the ancient documents and i haven't got through to the practice chapter yet! The meditation i do that is similar to Embryonic breathing, is from Dr. Yang eight peices of brocade sitting peice. I do this meditation for 30 minutes everyday in the morning, with normal abdominal breathing that i learn from the roots of chinese qigong, i also put my tounge on top of the mouth palate!

Today i called the Ymaa office and the person that was working there told me that i have to becarefull about embryonic breathing if i have high eye pressure because you are building up abundant Qi and when it circulates it goes throgh the eye and he told me to find a qigong master, but it is not easy to find one here where i live. So should i stop doing normal abdomanal breathing since i am building abundant qi at the false dan tien and once it fills up it will circulate through the governing and conceptional vesell and goes through the eye! I do normal abdominal breathing everyday and every second, i got to the point of regulating with out regulating! I have a learning disiability and meditation and normal abdominal breathing has help me focus in school! Now i want to learn embryonic breathing, but there is obstacle that is getting in my way!

Embryonic breathing/reverse abdominal breathing is more a more aggressive way to develop your Qi. With your concerns, I recommend you practice normal abdominal breathing, which is more relaxed and calming for the body.

Normal abdominal breathing motivates the circulation along your meridians throughout the body.

Reverse abdominal breathing motivates the circulation sideways, outward from your meridians, into the bone marrow and out through the skin. So this likely would lead more energy and therefore more pressure into your eyes.

At the same time, I recommend you practice the Eye Qigong in Grandmaster Kao's DVD. It is known to prevent or heal glaucoma:

And, I believe all qigong practitioners should begin to understand the concept of epigenetics.

This states that, although you have a genetic predisposition to a disease, it does not mean that you will certainly express the genes related to that disease. Your mental behavior, choices, and lifestyle (including nutrition) determine which genes are expressed. If your lifestyle is healthier, you will express healthier genes, AND you may break the cycle of passing down a hereditary issue.

For most of us, your health is a choice. You are not a helpless victim of symptoms or disease. Symptoms and disease and most often the result of your choices, except obviously in the cases of people born with serious, chronic or terminal disease, or those that develop quickly in younger people.

Thanks David,

The eye doctor told me about how caffeine can increase eye pressure! I always drink coffee everyday and for the past days i stop drinking coffee! I also change my diet, by eat more vegi and fruits!

I already got grandmaster kao dvd! I have been practicing the eight peice of brocade. So i haven't been practicing qigong for longevity

Stuff like this gives yangshenggong practices (aka qigong) not only it a bad name but makes it a laughing stock! For someone with a family history of glaucoma, perhaps NIDDM and/or hypertension, intraocular eye pressure is a potentially damaging problem and one should see the correct specialist/family medical practitioner. Normal breathing is just that! One cannot arbitrarily cease normal breathing and follow 'something else since the latter may trigger Valsalva maneuver. Abundant qi has nothing to do with this.

What the x is a false dantian? If you insist on following this pattern, better to see an acknowledged expert in this Embryonic Breathing!

I too have a family history of glaucoma and had high eye pressure for years. My eye doctor told me it was unusual for this condition to just go away on its own without medication. The only thing I can credit this improvement is to practicing Tai Chi. I've never done any embryonic breathing, just normal breathing so far. A lot has changed in just a little over a year of practice, things that are subtle but profound. I imaging that there are many other benefits I haven't even noticed yet.

Glad to hear you've experience some relief and healing of your eye pressure. Yes, on this forum we advise that people refer to both Western and Eastern medical treatment, and see an expert about serious health issues.

You should know there is a scientific basis from a Western medical perspective to healing the body with tai chi, qigong, and meditation, and yes, that includes simple breathing practice. It is complex issue to describe in detail, but its important to realize we're not speaking new age mumjo-jumbo here. Several YMAA authors are involved, including Ramel Rones who is a gold-medal winning martial artist who has brought his skillset into the Western medical community by pioneering National Institute of Health (NIH) studies since the 1980s. He now works as a co-investigator and 'mind-body scientific consultant' with patients at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Tufts School of Medicine, Harvard Medical School, and Mass General Hospital.

The key to Tai Chi, and Qigong, and meditation, is also the key to healing: deep relaxation. By retraining your nervous system to operate on a more relaxed baseline, you change your body chemistry, and you even cause healthier genes to be expressed, which can offset or even reverse hereditary illness. When activated even by low-level stress, or a racing mind, the sympathetic nervous system essentially shuts off your immune system.

Modern research is discovering how and why the Eastern arts work to promote healing, and the West can learn a lot from the East. New medical fields like epigenetics and psychoneuroimmunology are focused on how your mind and lifestyle CONTROL your health. Read that again and realize what it says. Your thoughts and your choices cause immediate physiological affects in your body.

Yeniseri - Yangshengong is not a laughingstock. It is the future of medicine.

The false dan tian is on the front of the abdomen. It is comprised of the layers of muscle, fascia, and fat of the abdomen, which acts as a battery and can generate energy quickly. But, because it is on the conception channel, that energy will be consumed the same day if not drawn with meditation into the REAL dan tian, which is located behind the abdominal muscles, aka the enteric nervous system (also referred to as the "second brain").

"Normal abdominal breathing" is not just "normal breathing". It would not be a technique that people train if that were the case. It involves using the abdominal muscles and perenium while meditating on the real dan tian. NOT how people normally breathe. Most of us are shallow breathers, which stimulates the sympathetic nervous system, which shuts down your natural healing process.

I forgot to mention that I am genetically predisposed for glaucoma also. I have undergone extensive genetic testing over the last several years, initially to aid in family tree research, and have had a significant potion of my genome sequenced. I know which diseases I am predisposed for and thus far have none of them.
The high inter ocular pressure was a hint that glaucoma would follow if there wasn't some intervention. If in my case this gene was turned off because of the benefits from Tai Chi that would really be interesting. My eye pressure is checked twice a year so it shouldn't take long to establish a pattern.
