Frequently Asked Questions for YMAA DVDs

Video Authoring

Authoring, or creating, a DVD is a very complex process. In addition, our in-depth martial arts and health DVDs push the envelope of what the DVD-media is capable of. Because our DVDs have an interactive catalog with hundreds of pages and links, multi-language menus and subtitles, and hours of video content, the process is even more complicated than usual. However, all YMAA DVDs undergo a rigorous Quality Assurance process to ensure that every single chapter, button, and feature of our DVDs function correctly on as many DVD playback devices as possible worldwide (all regions). In addition, when DVDs are replicated, most Authoring problems would be detected by computer.

So, if you are having a playback problem with a YMAA DVD, it is most likely due to one of two reasons, a PHYSICAL DEFECT on the disc itself, or COMPATIBILITY.

PHYSICAL DEFECTS happen very occasionally during the printing process; on the underside of the disc you might see a bubble, a smear, or an uneven coating of plastic. If you find a physical defect, of course YMAA will replace your DVD at no additional cost to you.

COMPATIBILITY is a more complex issue. DVD Authoring software is made to be compatible with the most DVD playback devices as possible. Every player has different Codec (decoder) settings, and sometimes the compression of the program and the Codec of your player may be incompatible. In this case, we will send you another copy to double-check at no additional cost to you. But, if your player is deemed to be incompatible, we will be unable to provide you with a functioning copy of that DVD title, and you will be refunded.

Rest assured that YMAA promises 100% satisfaction with all YMAA products, and your problem will be addressed quickly, with an exchange or a refund, if necessary.

COMPUTER PLAYBACK

As of October 2009, YMAA DVDs play back best when using:

MAC: iMac - Intel Core 2 Duo, OS 10.5.8, DVD Player V5.0.3, Framework Version 5.0.7

PC: windows XP, media player "Gom" (http://www.gomlab.com/eng/GMP_download.html). This player will automatically update the necessary codec.

QUESTIONS?

  1. Nothing happens when I insert the DVD in my computer / in my DVD player?

Inspect the underside of the disc for physical defects. Try the DVD in another player. If the disc works in a second player, the first player is incompatible. It is also possible that both of your players are incompatible. We will determine if there is some problem with the current print run of that title as soon as possible and determine the best solution we can, either replacing your disc, or issuing a refund.

  2. My DVD skips during play, what should I do?

The first thing to do is clean the DVD. Most problems can be solved with proper cleaning. Here is a link about cleaning a DVD. It is important to wipe in the proper direction and use proper solvents! Ehow - Cleaning a DVD If skipping continues, then is most likely caused by a physical defect. Inspect the underside of the disc for physical defects. Try the DVD in another player. If there is no defect, and the disc works in a second player, the first player is incompatible.

  3. My DVD freezes during play, or crashes my player, what should I do?

Inspect the underside of the disc for physical defects. Try the DVD in another player. If the disc works in a second player, the first player is incompatible. It is also possible that both of your players are incompatible. We will determine if there is some problem with the current print run of that title as soon as possible and determine the best solution we can, either replacing your disc, or issuing a refund.

  4. I have other YMAA DVDs that play fine, but this one won't play / skips / freezes. What should I do?

Inspect the underside of the disc for physical defects. Try the DVD in another player. If the disc works in a second player, the first player is incompatible. Every disc is different, and it is possible that one will play while another will not, based on the amount of content, and the necessary compression rate.

  5. My DVD rattled inside the box when I received it. What should I do?

Inspect the underside of the disc for scratches. If it has no scratches, and plays fine, you got lucky! If you prefer, you may send the DVD back to be exchanged. If it does have a scratch or playback issue, we will replace the DVD at no additional cost to you.

  6. Why are YMAA DVDs the highest-quality and most instructional DVDs on Earth?
