PUSHING HANDS

Getting From Stationary To Moving
Make a Reservation YMAA Boston, Boston, MA - September 18th, 2010, 9:00am - 12:00pm
Pushing Hands allows a student to experience the martial aspects of Taiji training by improving the feeling and understanding of forces, intentions, and Qi involved in the practice with a partner. Through Pushing Hands, students will achieve deeper relaxation and better comprehend the concept of leverage, timing, coordination, positioning, and Qi, making the art of Taijiquan much more alive and effective. This workshop will focus on stepping and footwork, bridging the gap between stationary training and moving.

SEMINAR/WORKSHOP PROGRAM

For deeper practice in any style of Taijiquan, Pushing Hands is a must. Developing that connection with your partner is essential to finding your center, your partner's center, and furthering your martial skill and understanding. This workshop will help students particularly in transitioning from a stationary setup to moving with footwork.

We will use several different exercises to begin the process.
  • Na and Coiling Jin
  • Single Push hands moving
  • Double Push Hands Moving
  • Rollback and Press
  • Moving Free Style Push Hands

WHO'S TEACHING?

Jeff Pratt is a disciple of Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming and a YMAA instructor of well over 15 years. He will be leading the lecture and practice of this short Pushing Hands workshop. Mark Klein may be available to assist.
