Qigong Theory and Maintaining Chest/Spine Health

Qigong is the ancient art of using the mind to naturally develop the body's Qi (energy) for improved health and longevity. How does practicing Qigong help maintain health and increase longevity? How does Qigong relate to the "cultivation of internal energy" in your body? These and many other questions will be discussed comprehensively in this seminar. Although designed to help a beginner understand the basic concepts of Qigong from scratch, this seminar can also be beneficial to experienced Qigong practitioners because they can draw on and learn from Dr. Yang's personal experiences and practice. The concepts learned from this seminar can be used as a strong foundation for a deeper understanding of the training. Also, exercises for feeling Qi, and "softening and relaxing" the chest and spine will be practiced.

SEMINAR/WORKSHOP PROGRAM

This first level of Qigong is necessary for all interested in Qigong because it establishes the foundation for more advanced training. This seminar is divided into three parts. All will be covered throughout the course of the weekend.

Part A
In the first part about “History and Theory”, topics will include:

  17. Important Points of Qigong Training
  18. Common Experiences for Qigong Beginners
PART B
For the second part, about “Qi Feeling and Corresponding with a Partner”, topics include:
  1. Taiji Arcing Arms Practice

  5. Laogong Self Correspondence
  6. Laogong Mutual Correspondence
PART C
The final part of the Seminar, about “Spine and Lower Back Qigong” includes the practice topics of Spine and Chest Qigong.

WHO'S TEACHING?

Dr. Yang, Jwing Ming will conduct the lecture and demonstrate the exercises of the Qigong Level 1 seminar. With over 40 years of teaching experience and over 50 publications, Dr. Yang is regarded as one of the foremost Qigong and martial arts masters in the world today.





WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

This seminar is open to everybody young or senior. There are no prerequisites to attend. Attendance is limited so register soon. This seminar will benefit:
  • Everyone interested in learning Qigong to improve their health and increase their longevity and vitality.
  • Everyone interested in Traditional Chinese Medicine and how it relates to Qigong.
  • Martial artists of all styles who would like to understand the concepts of Chinese Qigong and improve their spine and chest condition.
  • All YMAA students who would like to achieve a deeper comprehension of Qigong.
  • All interested in graduating and becoming a Qualified YMAA Instructor of Qigong.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING?

There are no special requirements for the Qigong Seminar. We recommend using loose practice clothing (t-shirt and pants) and a pair of indoor shoes unless you prefer working in bare feet.


TRAVELING TO BOSTON

YMAA Boston is located approximately 20 minutes South of downtown Boston. If you are traveling by car please visit YMAA Boston webpage for detailed driving instructions.

Free on-street parking is available and there are several paid lots nearby.

A good alternative is to use the MBTA subway transportation system. YMAA Boston is about a 3-minute walk from the Forest Hill Orange Line station. Visit MBTA website for more information.

If you are flying to Boston, you can use the MBTA subway system to get to YMAA instead of by taxi. After arriving at Boston’s Logan Airport take the free airport shuttle bus (Route #22, #33 or #55) to the MBTA ("T") Airport station. Take the Inbound Blue Line train to State station. At State station board the Orange Line outbound train to Forest Hills station. At the Forest Hills station go upstairs and proceed straight to exit the terminal on the Hyde Park Avenue side. Once outside and at the top of the landing, turn right, proceed downstairs, walk to the intersection, cross the street, and walk 2 blocks right to YMAA Boston. We are right across the Forest Hills parking lot.
