Visitor Training at YMAA CA Retreat Center

EVERYONE IS WELCOME TO COME TO YMAA CALIFORNIA FOR TRAINING

The training is challenging, and you will learn at an accelerated rate and will achieve higher levels of skill and understanding in a much shorter period. As a visitor, you must follow the usual Retreat Center student rules and schedule. Taijiquan and Qigong are trained in the morning, while external activities such as body conditioning, Long Fist, and White Crane are trained in the afternoons. The Retreat Center offers an ideal setting to immerse yourself in training away from the distractions of everyday life, with an organic garden, a natural spring well, and good energy deep in the forest of Northern California. There are strict rules and a schedule which must be adhered to in order to maintain the code of discipline that is an integral aspect of the training at the Retreat Center.

You may come to CA during Summer Seminars, or the Regular Training periods. In either case, please be sure to receive confirmation of your visit through email or phone before booking any travel.

  1. SUMMER SEMINARS: JULY and AUGUST.
(Limited to a maximum of 20 participants)
  2. REGULAR TRAINING PERIODS: September 1 - December 15 and January 16 - June 30.

TRANSPORTATION

VIA AIR

  1. To Eureka/Arcata ($50 for Round-Trip Ride) (Please Contact Us First for Arriving Time):
The fare will be $50 per round-trip ride. The drive to the center is roughly 90 minutes from the airport. Bring only necessary luggage due to limited space. Please try to book a flight that arrives before 7pm, and a flight that departs after 8am.

  2. To S. Francisco
San Francisco is a four-hour drive to the center. You may rent a vehicle, preferably one with four-wheel drive. However, if unable to rent a vehicle with four-wheel drive, it is possible to park your vehicle in Miranda. (Please check the parking options next). The number of vehicles permitted on the property is limited, along with a road-maintenance fee being charged. (Please check the parking options next).

VIA CAR

  1. Two-Wheel Drive Vehicles :
WARNING: Driving a two-wheel car to the center is NOT ALLOWED. A car with four-wheel drive capability is required. The road up to the center is narrow and ascends at a 38 degree incline. (There is a high risk of ascending the mountain with a two-wheel drive vehicle) Please note that many cell phones (aside from Verizon) do not function well in this remote mountain area. Two wheel drive vehicles have the option of parking at a farm near the center at the bottom of the mountain (about a 10 minute drive away). There is a parking fee of $10 per day at the farm.

  2. Four-Wheel-Drive Vehicle (Total 5 cars allowed):
If you have a four-wheel vehicle and wish to drive to the center, please contact us first for approval. Only 5 vehicles are permitted to enter and remain at the center. If you can avoid driving, please do so due to the single-lane roadway being capable of only having one car on it at any given time. There will be a fee of $20/day for parking and road maintenance. We encourage you to park the car at the Miranda farm.

VIA BUS

  • You can take a bus to Garberville (about a 20 minute drive from the center) and get picked up by us for a $10 round-trip fee. Buses that stop in Garberville include Amtrak and Greyhound.
